Scopeti: a green oasis amongst the Tuscan hills
Scopeti is a small hamlet located in the metropolitan city of Florence, in the midst of the beautiful Tuscan countryside. It is situated about 3 km from the main town of Rufina and approximately 35 km from the city of Florence.
Geography
At an elevation of 120 m above sea level, Scopeti is nestled in the valley of the Sieve River, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. The stunning landscape is completed by the hills of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.
Monuments and Places of Interest
Near Scopeti, visitors can find the remains of a watermill dating back to the late 17th century, which was in operation for less than a century due to flooding from the river. La Pescaia, a bridge structure near the Sieve River that was bombed at the end of World War II, is also worth a visit.
Villa I Busini, a magnificent castle from the 15th century located near Scopeti, has recently been restored and opened to the public.
Culture
The Scopeti People's House, built by the residents themselves in 1963, is still active in the hamlet as an ARCI Circle. However, the municipal elementary school, closed since 1980 due to a lack of students, is no longer functional.
Economy
The recently built industrial zone along the non-electrified Ferrovia Faentina railway line (via Stazione di Pontassieve) is home to mechanical workshops and facilities for the processing of leather, plastic, textiles, and wood. Agricultural production of oil and wine is also active.
In this industrial zone, one of the largest Lapis and Affini facilities in Europe can be found.
Infrastructure and Transport
Scopeti is connected to the state road 67 Tosco Romagnola for a stretch of about 1.5 km. The Scopeti railway station on the Pontassieve-Borgo San Lorenzo railway line offers convenient transport to the city of Florence.
