Ruffia

Introduction to Ruffia

Hello friends! Today, I want to talk to you about a small town located in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont, called Ruffia. With a population of only 357 inhabitants, it is truly a hidden gem that deserves to be discovered.

The Castle of Ruffia

One of the most famous attractions in Ruffia is the castle dating back to the 12th century. Owned later by the Casane Astigiane, the Falletti, the Del Carretto, and finally the Cambiani di Ruffia, today it appears in forms dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. The castle also hosted the famous painter and sculptor Lorenzo Pascale, son of Oddone Pascale, who decorated the Annunciation Chapel and a pavilion in the castle garden.

Administration

Like every municipality, there is an administration that takes care of the management of Ruffia. In this case, the current mayor is Giovanni Bongiovanni and the city council is made up of 6 members.

Demographic Evolution

The town has seen a decrease in population in recent decades. In 1961, it had 493 inhabitants, but today there are only 357. A decrease that confirms the current trend of Italian citizens abandoning the majestic villages of regions like Piedmont to move to larger cities.

Foreign Communities

The municipality hosts a limited number of foreign citizens. As of December 31, 2017, there were 43 foreign citizens living in Ruffia, mainly from Romania.

Image Gallery

The town is small, but offers a lot of interesting things to see and photograph. The Church of San Giacomo and the Castle of Ruffia are the main monuments. An online photo gallery is available for anyone who wants to see it in person.

Conclusions

Ruffia is a truly quiet small town, an experience for those looking for a bit of peace in the beautiful Piedmont countryside. If you are traveling to the big city of Turin or exploring the mountains of Cuneo, don't forget to stop in Ruffia and enjoy the charm of this little gem.
