The History of Sant'Apollinare

In the past, Sant'Apollinare was an autonomous municipality together with the hamlet of Fenil del Turco (formerly known as Selva). The city has undergone a series of name changes over the years but has maintained its historical charm. In 1927, the municipality was abolished and incorporated into the municipality of Rovigo, along with other nearby cities.

Sant'Apollinare is famous for its religious and civil architecture. The Basilica of Sant'Apollinare is one of the most important monuments in the city. The "Vanni Bazzan" Astronomical Observatory is a place of great interest for astronomy enthusiasts. Managed by the Polesani Astrofili Group (G.A.P.), it offers visitors a panoramic view of the starry sky. The observatory boasts a reflector telescope with an aperture of 410 mm and a focal length of 1900 mm. In addition, there is a refractor telescope with an aperture of 205 mm and a focal length of 2050 mm. The observatory is also equipped with a recent installation, the Spyder 230 radiotelescope, for the study of radio sources.

On the observation terrace, there are also other portable telescopes available, allowing visitors to observe constellations and navigate the sky.

Infrastructure and Transport

The Sant'Apollinare airfield is located in the Ca' Rangon area, close to the village center. The surface is intended for tourist traffic and has hosted aeronautical events over the years.
