Marco
Welcome to Marco, a hamlet of Rovereto
Hello friends! Today I'm talking about Marco, a beautiful hamlet in the municipality of Rovereto in the autonomous province of Trento. This picturesque village has a population of approximately 2,659 inhabitants and is located just 6 km from the city of Rovereto. The hamlet is situated near the motorway exit "Rovereto sud - Lago di Garda nord" at an altitude of 161 meters above sea level.
Monuments
One of the main attractions of Marco is the Church of San Marco Evangelista, located in the municipality of Rovereto. This historical monument dates back to ancient times and is an ideal destination for those who love religious art and architecture.
Powder magazine
In the past, Marco was known for being the site of a large powder magazine area. This site was created between 1922 and 1927 and was used by the Italian Army for several years. Now, the powder magazine has been closed since 1995 and has passed to the state property of the autonomous province of Trento. The area covers approximately 14 hectares and was used to store ammunition. There are still numerous casemates inside, where bullets were typically held back. It's surprising to note that even the Civil Protection has chosen this site as a base, converting it into a training center for dogs.
Notes
Marco was previously an independent municipality, but in 1927 it was abolished and annexed to Rovereto, along with the areas of Lizzana and Noriglio.
