Roverè della Luna
Welcome to Roveré della Luna!
Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Roveré della Luna, a small town in the province of Trento, in Trentino-Alto Adige, with a population of 1629 inhabitants.
Its geographical location
Roveré della Luna is located on the border with the autonomous province of Bolzano, surrounded by Monte Alto (''Geiersberg'') and Monticello (''Wiggerspitz''). Here, the Chiusa di Salorno was formed, a valley that for centuries was a natural barrier between the German and Italian parts of Trentino-Alto Adige and is considered the linguistic border between the two areas.
The name of the town
The name of the municipality derives from the oak forest that was in this area, where the Adige river once created a bend (or a "moon"). This image can be seen from the Salorno Castle during nighttime.
History
In 1910, pan-German associations planned the creation of a German-speaking kindergarten in Roveré. This project was heavily influenced by nationalist motivations.
Monuments and places of interest
The main place of worship in Roveré della Luna is the Church of Santa Caterina. The church itself is a monument, with an intense historical value.
Local culture
One of the most important annual events is the "tree festival," during which elementary school children gather in Pianizzia to plant a tree each. This initiative strengthens the bond between the community and the environment, entrusting young people with the care of the land.
Demography
According to the latest data, defined as of December 31, 2015, the number of foreign residents in Roveré della Luna is 209, approximately 12.78% of the population. The largest groups come from Morocco and Romania.
