Rovasenda Castle: a journey through time

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Rovasenda Castle, an ancient fortress located in the town of Rovasenda in the Vercelli area.

History

The history of Rovasenda Castle dates back to 965, when the territory was granted to Aimone, count of Vercelli. Over the centuries, the castle changed its function several times: it was built as a military structure, then became a noble residence and later the center of agricultural and economic activities. In 1355, Rovasenda became associated with the Marquis of Monferrato, but in 1413, after a siege by the Savoyards, the lords of Rovasenda were forced to submit to the new dominant power of the territory.

During the centuries, the castle underwent several transformations and enlargements. In 1459, the current tower was built, by Antonio di Rovasenda, still one of the highest buildings in the entire Vercelli area.

A new wing was also built during the Renaissance period and decorated with frescoes, coffered ceilings and large arches. However, the castle also suffered serious damage during the war between the Spanish and Carlo Emanuele I, with damages caused by lightning and fires.

Rovasenda Castle: history, restoration and visit.

Restorations and future projects

In the seventies, engineer Paolo Caccia Dominioni restored the interior of the tower, which can now be visited.

But that's not all! In the twentieth century, architect Carlo Nigra even copied Rovasenda Castle to build the New Rovasenda Castle, a modern building of great impact.

Visit to the castle

If you are in the area, I recommend visiting Rovasenda Castle: the interior of the tower is truly impressive, with stairs and rooms that will make you feel like the protagonist of a medieval adventure. The view from the terrace is also breathtaking!

Conclusion

In conclusion, Rovasenda Castle is a journey through time, an opportunity to discover the evolution of the territory and a building that has gone through different centuries and functions. I hope I have piqued your interest, and I invite you to visit it: it is really worth it!
