Rosora

Rosora: a gem in the Marche region

Rosora is a beautiful municipality located in the province of Ancona, in the Marche region, with a population of approximately 1850 inhabitants. The historic center of the town is located on a steep hill of pliocene sandstone (arenaria), from whose top it is possible to admire a vast panorama, from the chain of the Monti Sibillini to that of Mount Catria to the Adriatic Sea.

Physical geography

The surrounding areas are famous for the production of Verdicchio DOC and DOCG, thanks to the widespread vineyards that are largely run by family-owned companies. The Municipality of Rosora is also known for its panoramic position on the valley, which is why in 2013 it obtained the official title of "Balcone della Vallesina" (Balcony of Vallesina). Additionally, the town is characterized by a temperate-cold climate, with winters marked by frequent snowfalls.

Rosora, the balcony of Marche: history, wine, and culture.

History

Traces of primitive presences and of Ancient Rome, along with those of the Lombards, testify to the presence of an ancient and complex history. The famous Medieval castle, of which towers and walls are still preserved, bears witness to the passage of the different peoples who ruled the territory. In fact, the name Rosora seems to derive from the presence of reddish tuffs or from the name of Queen Rosaria, but it is certified that the original name is "castrum rosarii", the castle of the rosary.

Society

The Municipality of Rosora has witnessed an interesting demographic change in recent years, moving from an old agricultural population to a new young and dynamic population.

Culture

To honor the wine tradition, every year, Rosora used to host a wine conference in October, particularly on Verdicchio DOC and DOCG wines, and the Festival of Sapa. However, in recent years, the conference has been canceled from the calendar of Rosora events. The "Festival of Sapa" is the queen of the Rosora events organized, among others, by the tourist association Pro Loco. In this festival, visitors can participate in a series of shows and convivial gastronomic events that take place in a Renaissance setting, where the participants wear costumes from the 1500s and relive the historical reenactment of the wedding of the daughter of the Moor, "Clementia."

In conclusion, Rosora is a small gem of the Marche region, rich in history and culture, surrounded by beautiful vineyards, and highly renowned for its production of Verdicchio DOC and DOCG wines. If you are looking for a magical place to relax and get to know the culture of the Marche region, Rosora may be the ideal destination for you.
