The first settlements date back to the year 1000 around a monastery of the Order of Saint Benedict, built about a mile south of the location called "Piano". The inhabitants settled in that area for convenience, to work as shepherds, pig breeders and cattle drivers in Corleto Monforte. Finally, Roscigno became an autonomous municipality in 1515, breaking the chains of the property of the municipality of Corleto Monforte.
