History
Foundation and transformation into a Roman colony
The city was probably founded around the 3rd century BC by the Taurini, an ancient Gallic tribe, near the current position of Turin. Later, in the 1st century BC, it was transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus and took the name of ''Iulia Augusta Taurinorum''.

After the domain of the Ostrogoths, Turin became the capital of the Duchy of Turin. Subsequently, after becoming the capital of the March of Turin, it passed under the lordship of the House of Savoy in the 11th century. In 1563 it officially became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy.
Capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia and the Kingdom of Italy
From 1720 to 1861, Turin was the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia. In the 19th century, the Kingdom of Sardinia led to the Risorgimento, and in 1861, Turin became the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy.
