Let's explore the physical geography of Ronco Scrivia

The territory of Ronco Scrivia is located on an alluvial plain corresponding to a double bend in the Scrivia River, closed on both sides of the watercourse by numerous mountain ridges, including the highest being Monte Reale with its 1251 meters. Here you can find several peaks: from bric dell'Aiuola to mount Porale, from bric Rebora to mount Refin, from bric degli Alberi to bric Roncobari, from mount Zuccaro to bric Baldin and from bric Moian.

On the hills of Ronco Scrivia, there are many small localities, mainly frequented for holidays. These areas are still inhabited by farmers and direct cultivators. Ronco Scrivia is separated from the Ligurian coast by the Ligurian Apennines mountain range, which affects the climate of the area, causing particularly colder winters with more frequent snowfalls. Between the territories of Busalla, Ronco Scrivia and Fraconalto, between 1970 and 1977, the Busalletta lake was created.

Let's discover the history of Ronco Scrivia

Ronco Scrivia has an almost millennial history. The toponym Ronco derives from the Latin-medieval verb "runcare," meaning to clear new uncultivated lands. Ronco Scrivia has a little over 200 years as a municipal entity.

Ronco Scrivia was the obligatory passageway for important communication routes between Liguria and northern regions. In the Serravalle Scrivia territory, near Ronco, there are the excavations of the Libarna site, the main archaeological site of Lower Piedmont. A first settlement dates back to the year 1000, and the name Ronco is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1127.

Ronco was subjected to the temporal power of the Dioceses of Tortona until the 13th century when the ownership of the imperial fiefs of Ronco was acquired by the Spinola family, intertwining its history with the neighboring villages and hamlets of the upper Scrivia valley. In 1242, the mayor of Genoa besieged the villages of Ronco, Savignone, Costapelata, and Busalla to counter the probable alliances between Guglielmo Spinola, lord of the imperial fiefs, and Emperor Frederick II of Swabia.
