Roncadelle

Roncadelle: a small municipality in the province of Brescia

Roncadelle is a small municipality located in the province of Brescia, on the immediate outskirts of the city. With a population of just over 9000 inhabitants, it is a quiet and welcoming place, ideal for those seeking a life away from the chaos of the city but close to its services.

Physical geography: a territory delimited by rivers

The territory of Roncadelle develops in the Brescia plain, delimited to the east by the Mella river and to the west by the Gandovere stream. In the middle flows the Mandolossa ditch, important for irrigation of the fields and production of hydroelectric energy.

Roncadelle: history, culture and tranquility just a stone's throw from Brescia.

History: from agricultural origins to centuries of Porcellaga domination

The name Roncadelle derives from the Latin word "runco", which means to cut or harvest. This word recalls the agricultural origins of the town, which in the Middle Ages was called "Runca". In 760 AD, the Lombard king Desiderio donated the locality to the Monastery of Santa Giulia, which had an important influence on the life of the community in the following centuries. In the thirteenth century, however, the crisis of the monastery led to the birth of the first bourgeois Brescian families who took control of Roncadelle. In 1385, the municipality came under the jurisdiction of Brescia and in the fifteenth century, the Porcellaga family acquired uncontested power in the local territory, with the construction of important works such as the Castle and Seriola. In 1500, the church of San Bernardino da Siena was built to satisfy the population's need to organize their religious life.

Culture and tourism

Roncadelle is a place rich in history and culture, worth visiting. The church of San Bernardino da Siena is an example of Renaissance architecture, with a large fresco on the external wall. The Castle of Porcellaga, on the other hand, has recently been restored and transformed into an exhibition and cultural events area. A few kilometers from Roncadelle is the city of Brescia, rich in monuments and museums.

Economy and work

Roncadelle is a predominantly agricultural area, with a strong tradition in fruit and vegetable production. However, in recent decades, an important commercial and service activity has also developed, thanks to its proximity to the city of Brescia. Trade, catering, and child and welfare services are among the most developed sectors in the town.

Living in Roncadelle

Living in Roncadelle means having access to all the services of the nearby city of Brescia, without sacrificing the tranquility and beauty of country life. The town is well connected by buses and trains and offers a wide choice of leisure activities, from countryside walks to golf at the sports center.

Roncadelle is a fascinating place, full of history, and worth discovering and appreciating. If you need a break from the city, come and visit it, and you will fall in love with its beauty and hospitality.
