The history of Vallio

Vallio is one of the oldest towns in Roncade and is first mentioned in a bull from Pope Eugene III in 1152. Here you will find the church of San Nicolò, which was the main church of Roncade. It is believed that this locality was founded in Roman times and is associated with the nearby Monastier di Treviso Abbey, founded between the 7th and 8th centuries.

However, in the 14th century the village was hit by plagues and floods that caused its decline. The territory and the title of church were entrusted to the church of San Cipriano in Roncade.

The area was repopulated in the 16th century thanks to the interest of the Venetian patricians of Pesaro. The church, reconstructed in the 15th century, was the subject of controversy for three centuries as the inhabitants of Vallio intended to recover the title of church that had been "stolen" by San Cipriano.

Monuments and places of interest

Vallio di Roncade boasts a very important artistic heritage. The parish church of San Nicola di Bari is located on the banks of the Vallio River and is one of the most beautiful monuments in the area. Here you can admire the organ by Gaetano Callido, which was played for many years by Andrea Lucchesi, a very important musician from the area.
