Romeno

Welcome to Romeno!

Romeno is a municipality of 1394 inhabitants located in the autonomous province of Trento, precisely in the Alta Val di Non in Val di Non. In addition to the production of apples and cheese, Romeno is developing its hotel and farmstay offering. Let's discover the history, monuments and places of interest, society, infrastructure and administration of this picturesque town.

History

The presence of inhabitants in this village during the pre-Roman period is attested by a votive stele to the god Saturn, placed in the parish church of San Bartolomeo. The name Romeno probably derives from "Lumennones", one of the five families or peoples of Rhaetian or Celtic origin present on the stele. The village, in the shape of a quadrilateral, could be a remnant of the ancient Roman or Lombard center placed to defend the road to Rhaetia. During the construction of the road in 1871-72, the remains of a castle or fortification were found in the locality of "la Piena".
