Romallo

Romallo, a municipality in Trentino-Alto Adige

Hello friends, today I will talk to you about Romallo, a small municipality located in Trentino-Alto Adige, in the province of Trento. The municipality had a population of 614 inhabitants and was known for its beauty and history. However, on January 1, 2020, it was merged with other municipalities (Brez, Cagnò, Cloz, and Revò) to form the new municipality of Novella.

History

Romallo has an interesting history dating back to the Roman period, the remains of which can still be found in the area. Later, the municipality underwent several dominations, including the Holy Roman Empire, the Episcopal Principality of Trento, and the Kingdom of Italy. During the fascist period, Romallo was annexed to the municipality of Cagnò, but returned to be an autonomous municipality at the end of the Second World War.

Romallo has a remarkable architectural and cultural heritage worth visiting. Among the most important buildings is the church of San Vitale in Novella, which is the parish church of the municipality and dates back to the 15th century. In the past, Romallo also had a castle, the Castello di Romallo, which unfortunately is no longer present.
