Rogno: history, nature, art, and Bergamo's cuisine.

Physical Geography

Territory

Rogno is located on the right bank of the Oglio river, in the beautiful Val Camonica. The territory is mainly composed of mountains that offer a spectacular view of the surrounding valleys. And then there's the summit of Mount Pora, which is the highest point of the municipality.

Orography

For outdoor enthusiasts, Rogno is the ideal place to be. Here you can go trekking, hiking, horse riding, or cycling, or ski on the prepared slopes of Pora.

History

Rogno is a city rich in history and ancient traditions. It is believed that the area of Coren Pagà, near the municipality, was inhabited since the Mesolithic period, that is, about 6000 years ago. Important archaeological finds and rock engravings of considerable value, still visible today, have been discovered from this period.

But the populations that settled in this territory were many over the millennia: among them, the Cenomani Gauls, the Romans, and the Lombards. However, it was with the arrival of the monks of the Abbey of Marmoutier Tours, at the end of the first millennium, that Rogno began to develop as a center of culture and commercial exchanges.

Administration

Over the centuries, the municipality of Rogno has undergone various political vicissitudes: the territory passed from the Visconti family to the Malatesta, to end up under the Republic of Venice, which put an end to the disputes between Guelphs and Ghibellines.

With the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy, in 1861, Rogno was annexed to the Province of Bergamo and since 1838 it has been separated from the district of Breno, becoming part of the district of Lovere.

Tourist attractions

But let's get to the tourist attractions of Rogno. If you love art and culture, you cannot miss the church of Santo Stefano, in the center of the village. The bell tower is an architectural work of considerable interest, like the tombstone of the spouses ''Reae Trumiae''.

But excursions in nature are also a must: from Mount Pora, with its spectacular view of the valley, to the water intake of the Canale d'Arno, an hydraulic work from the XVIII century.

Events and gastronomy

Finally, Rogno is well known for its culinary traditions and the festivals that take place throughout the year. Among the most important events are the "Porcino Mushroom Festival" and the patronal feast of Santo Stefano, with its suggestive procession.

The cuisine of Rogno is based on typical local products, such as taragna polenta, mature cheese, and game. And then there are the desserts, such as torta camuna, a delicious sweet preparation with blackberry jam.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a quiet place to enjoy nature, history, and culture, Rogno is the right place. Come and visit it and discover everything it has to offer!
