Soncino
Discovering Soncino: history and territory
Hello everyone! Today I will talk about Soncino, a beautiful hamlet of the municipality of Rognano, located in the province of Pavia, northwest of the town and near the A7 motorway (Italy).
To understand a bit of Soncino's history, we need to go back to the 12th century, when it was called "Socinum". At that time, it was part of the fiefdom of Vellezzo Bellini, feudalized to the Bellini of Milan. In the 18th century, the municipality of Cassina Cavagnate was added to Soncino, creating a larger entity.
But the history of Soncino does not end here: in 1841, the Austrian government decided to suppress the municipality and merge it with that of Rognano. Despite this union, however, Soncino has maintained its identity and importance for residents and visitors.
Society and demographics
In the past, Soncino had a rather small population. In 1751, in fact, the village had only 224 inhabitants. Later, in 1805, the number of inhabitants rose to 245.
Today, thanks to its proximity to the city of Pavia and the highway, Soncino is developing more and more. Despite being a hamlet of Rognano, it manages to offer many services and opportunities to its inhabitants.
