Discovering Rogeno, the Brianza town overlooking Lake Pusiano

Hello friends! Today we will discover Rogeno, a town of 3105 inhabitants located in the province of Lecco, in the wonderful region of Lombardy. Rogeno is a place that really deserves to be visited, with its historical monuments and enchanting natural landscapes.

Physical geography

The municipal territory of Rogeno extends between the southern shores of Lake Pusiano, a wonder of nature that I highly recommend you admire. Rogeno also extends along the Lambro river, up to the Maglio hamlet.

Name origins

The name of the town derives from the Late Latin expression "aruggia", which means irrigation ditch.

History

Even the history of Rogeno is very interesting. The hamlet of Casletto, for example, is believed to have Celtic origins. During the Middle Ages, "el locho de Rozeno" is mentioned within the Squadra of Canzo.

Symbols

The coat of arms and the gonfalon were granted in 1956, the latter being a red and white divided flag.

Monuments and places of interest

Religious architecture

The Parish Church of Saints Cassiano and Ippolito is a place to visit absolutely: open for worship since 1536, it was renovated at the beginning of the 20th century. It preserves frescoes by Luigi Morgari, a vestment of Pope Pius XI, whose parents were from Rogeno, and the relics of Saint Ippolito.

Furthermore, there are also the Church of Saints Marco and Gregorio in Casletto and other sites of interest.

Civil architecture

Among the civil architecture, Villa Gadda is a gem not to be missed. The villa, located in the center of the town, consists of three different bodies, the oldest of which dates back to the 16th century. Here also lived the Italian politician Giuseppe Gadda until his death in 1901.

Other

For lovers of history and nature, the town also offers other wonders not to be missed, such as the Ruins of Maggiolino Castle and the former Isacco spinning mill.

Moreover, near the elementary schools and the town hall, you can admire the Monument to Giuseppe Gadda, which is located in memory of the 50th anniversary of the death of Pope Pius XI.

Finally, the Maglio hamlet houses some water mills, among which is the Leone mill, dating back to the 17th century.

Society

The town of Rogeno has a long history dating back to the 18th century: in 1771, it had only 514 inhabitants, but in the following years the population grew steadily, reaching the current 3105 inhabitants.

Here also lived the parents of Pope Pius XI, born in Desio, and on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death, a commemorative book titled "In memory of Pope Pius XI on the 50th anniversary of his passing" was printed.

In short, Rogeno is a very interesting town, rich in history and natural beauty. Don't miss the opportunity to visit it and discover all its secrets!
