Rofrano is a town of 1278 inhabitants located in the southern part of Cilento, equidistant from other larger municipalities such as Sala Consilina, Vallo della Lucania and Sapri. The geography of Rofrano
Rofrano is part of the territory of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, which was created to preserve the extraordinary natural and cultural beauty of this part of Italy. The village also boasts surrounding areas, such as the hamlets of Tresanti, Provitera, Molino Vecchio, Pozzillo, San Menale, Treppaoli, Borgo Cerreto (a hamlet partially in the municipality of Torre Orsaia) and an uninhabited locality known as Triglio. In addition, part of the territory of the village of Pruno (Cilento) is included in its municipal area.
The history of the municipality of Rofrano
Its origins date back to the III and IV centuries, and are attributed to some crusader nobles, then inhabitants near the mountain of Piaggine in a place they called Ruffium (hence the ancient denomination of "Ruranu"). In the Middle Ages, the feud of Rofrano was granted by Roberto il Guiscardo to one of his knights. The relative castle, enlarged on a pre-existing Lombard-Byzantine manor, is still visible.

The coat of arms and flag of the municipality were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on 10 March 2014. The flag is an azure drapery with a yellow border.
Life in Rofrano
Rofrano is a predominantly Catholic town: the majority of the population is of Christian religion and mainly belongs to the Catholic Church. The municipality belongs to the diocese of Vallo della Lucania, which includes a parish, Santi Giovanni Battista and Nicola di Mira. In addition, there is an Evangelical community: the Pentecostal Church Assemblies of God in Italy.
The culture of Rofrano
In 1954, anthropologist Massimo Cresta, a professor at the Sapienza University of Rome, conducted a study on the eating habits of the inhabitants of Rofrano, analyzing the habits of 226 families out of the 601 residing in the municipality, of which 38% were living in poor socio-economic conditions. This study notes the importance of the food consumed in the daily diet of the inhabitants of Rofrano: mainly wheat, plums, figs, cheeses, wine, and olive oil, which is the main cultivation of the territory, representing one of the main riches of the municipality.
