Roè Volciano
Welcome to Roè Volciano!
Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Roè Volciano, a delightful municipality in the province of Brescia in Lombardy, which has a population of around 4,330. This is one of the first towns in Valle Sabbia and belongs to the Mountain Community of Valle Sabbia. In this article, I will provide you with information about the physical geography, history, and symbols of Roè Volciano, as well as provide you with bibliography and external links for further information.
Physical Geography
Territory
Roè Volciano is located in the province of Brescia and is a medium-sized municipality, covering an area of 13.46 km². The municipality is located a short distance from Lake Garda, one of the most famous and beautiful lakes in Italy, and from the mountains of Valle Sabbia.
History
The name of the municipality
The municipality of Roè Volciano assumed its current name only in the twentieth century, following the growth of an important industrial center in the Roè area, which takes its name from the dialect term "roveto" (meaning "bush"), demonstrating the lack of significant previous settlements. Here is the Hefti cotton mill, opened in 1884 and closed after the Second World War. Previously, the municipality was simply called "Volciano" and other centers such as Gazzane and Liano depended on it, which looked out over the Riviera Gardesana in a predominantly agricultural economy. Transports such as the Rezzato-Vobarno railway and the new road to Salò, built between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, also valued the locality of Tormini, a traditional "gateway" to Valle Sabbia.
