Roddino

Roddino, a jewel of the Langhe

Hello everyone! Today I'll be talking about a small town in Piedmont that not everyone may know: Roddino. Located about 55 kilometers from Cuneo, in the lower Langhe, it's a true jewel of the Langhe, an area of great tourist and culinary interest.

Physical Geography

Roddino's territory extends over an area of 10.45 km² and is characterized by varying altitudes, with an elevation difference ranging from a minimum of about 300 meters above sea level to a maximum of about 650 meters. The town is located on the right bank of the Riavolo stream, a tributary of the Rea, and offers a spectacular view of all the Langhe and the Alps.

The climate is continental, with cold winters and fairly snowy and hot, dry summers. The area is classified as "zone 4" (very low seismicity) and "zone F", 3,071 GR/G (sub-continental temperate climate).

Roddino: The Langhe treasure for food and wine and history.

History

The history of Roddino dates back to Roman times, as evidenced by the discovery of a small sandstone plaque from the 2nd century AD. In the Middle Ages, a castle was built on the territory of the current municipality in the 10th century. The toponym "Rodino" was first mentioned in 1077, when Duchess Immilla of Turin gave it to the Benedictine monks of the monastery of San Pietro in Musinasco. In 1197 it passed to the Marquis of Saluzzo and subsequently to the Diocese of Asti during the Napoleonic occupation.

Present day

In the 20th century, Roddino experienced a strong emigration towards the industrial centers of Turin and Savona, but it has experienced an economic recovery thanks to wine production and tourism. In the town, you can find several wineries that offer tastings of typical wines of the area, such as Dolcetto, and numerous tourist activities such as trekking, mountain biking, and horse riding.

The municipality is part of the union of the municipalities of the Colline di Langa and Barolo and is known for the patronal feast of Sant'Eusebio, which is held on August 14th and includes costume parades, live music, and food stands.

Conclusion

In summary, Roddino is a charming place, rich in history, culture, and good food. If you're passing through the Langhe, I recommend spending at least one afternoon in this splendid town, which will give you an unforgettable experience. What do you say, shall we go there together?
