Cassignanica

Cassignanica: a brief introduction

Cassignanica is a hamlet of the municipality of Rodano located southwest of the inhabited center, in the province of Milan. Its history as an autonomous community is rather brief, as it was suppressed in 1841.

History of Cassignanica

The small community of Cassignanica was a registered parish seat in 1751 as a village in the province of Milan with only 97 inhabitants. However, with the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy in 1805, the number of residents grew to 150. In 1809, a decree by Napoleon decided to abolish the municipality and annex Cassignanica to Pantigliate, and then to Peschiera Borromeo in 1811. The Municipality of Cassignanica was reinstated in 1816 after the return of the Austrian Empire, but was again annexed to another municipality in 1841. This time, the community was annexed to Briavacca, a village that had always been dependent on Cassignanica from an ecclesiastical point of view. Briavacca, finally, merged into Rodano.
