A brief history of Piloni

Piloni was born as a small center of shepherds and lumberjacks during the 18th century, although it did not develop until the 20th century. The village has always had an agricultural, forestry and coal function, and its name may derive from the large stone basins used to water the animals, or from stone work.

In recent years, Piloni has seen an increase in its population thanks to immigrants from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Macedonia.

The economy of Piloni

Piloni has been known since 1892 for the presence of lithic deposits used for extracting kaolin, used to produce ceramics and porcelain. The deposit is located in the rhyolitic outcrop east of Mount Alto and is still actively exploited.
