The history of Roccasecca dei Volsci

The village was founded by the Privernati who fled their town around 876 AD. It was a Papal fiefdom and in the 12th and 13th centuries it was possessed by the Ceccano family. In 1428 it passed to the family of Ildebrando Conti, then it was sold in 1556 to the Carafa and in 1558 to the Massimo, a noble Roman family. Today, the title of Prince of Roccasecca dei Volsci remains with the Massimo family.

Monuments and places of interest

Roccasecca dei Volsci has many attractions, including beautiful churches like the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Church of Santa Croce, but the most important monuments are the Tempietto di Maria (mother of Jesus) della Pace, one of the oldest monuments in the city dating back to the 8th century, and the Tempietto di S. Raffaele in classic style. Furthermore, the village boasts two important palaces, Palazzo Massimo and Palazzetto Celli.

Economy and society

In 2015 there were a total of 40 active businesses, with 82 employees. The village is part of the Monti Lepini Ausoni Mountain Community. Roccasecca dei Volsci is a very small village with a population of only 1046 inhabitants.
