History

The history of Roccaforte Mondovì is long and varied. Among its curiosities are the legends that tell of the construction of a castle by Emperor Hadrian and the presence of mountain Ligurians already in the first half of the 2nd century B.C. Over the centuries, the territory was contested by various jurisdictions, until it became part of the domain of the Savoia family. The salt wars and the arrival of Napoleon's troops also marked the history of Roccaforte, as well as brigandage and epidemics.

In fact, many of the facades of the houses in the historic center are frescoed with murals depicting ancient crafts and traditions of the area.
