Robecco Pavese

Welcome to Robecco Pavese!

Hello everyone! Today I'll be telling you about Robecco Pavese, an Italian municipality located in Lombardy, in the Oltrepò Pavese plain. Approximately 516 people live here and it is a very interesting place from a historical standpoint.

The History of Robecco Pavese

Robecco Pavese is a town that developed in the Middle Ages. It is located in an area that was affected by the centuriazione of Clastidium's (Casteggio) countryside by the Romans. The earliest records date back to the 13th century when it was a dependency of an older town called Salabolonum, with probable Lombard origins. In fact, the term "rebechum" indicated a small castle, an outpost of a larger one.

After the decline of Salabolonum, Robecco became the main town. In the 14th century, the Beccaria of Pavia fortified the castle, from which they could control the Casteggio commune. In the following century, they made Robecco an autonomous fiefdom, able to keep it despite the fierce contrasts between Castellino and Fiorello Beccaria of Robecco and the Visconti. The Beccaria held it until the 18th century when the fief passed to the Balbi family and finally to the Belcredi, just before the end of the feudal regime.
