Rivoli Veronese

Rivoli Veronese: a small municipality in the heart of Veneto

Rivoli Veronese is an Italian municipality located in the province of Verona, in the heart of the Veneto region. With a population of around 2,170 inhabitants, this small municipality is located just 25 kilometers from the city of Verona, northwest of the city. Built close to the Chiusa Veneta and with a favorable position on the Vallagarina, the municipality of Rivoli Veronese is located just a few kilometers from Lake Garda and the hills of Valpolicella.

Physical geography

The landscape of Rivoli Veronese is heavily influenced by past glacial action. The territory is delimited by the dorsal ridge of Mount Baldo and is located within the morainic amphitheater, on its northeastern margin. The territory is also characterized by the proximity of the Adige River, which has shaped the surrounding landscape, and the Tasso stream.

Hydrography

The hydrography of the municipality of Rivoli Veronese is mainly formed by the Adige River, the Tasso stream, and the small natural springs in the area. The Tasso stream originates from the southern part of Mount Baldo and flows along the Rivoli's morainic amphitheater before merging with the Adige in Cavaion Veronese.

Karst landscape and rock engravings in Incanale

The territory of Rivoli Veronese is characterized by the presence of a small morainic amphitheater with semicircular shapes and a regular trend. This amphitheater was formed during the Quaternary glaciations, when the South Tyrolean glacier occupied the Adige Valley. In addition, in Canale di Rivoli, it is possible to admire the rock engravings made by humans on the polished surfaces left by the glaciation.

Paleontological research

The territory of Rivoli Veronese is an ancient fossil site dating back to the Quaternary. In 1988, the scholar and professor at the University of Milan, Mauro Cremaschi, identified a vast biodiversity in the site due to the fact that Italy was an ecotone area during the period of sedimentation.

In summary, Rivoli Veronese is a small but fascinating municipality from a geological, monumental, and historical point of view, ideal for nature lovers and people interested in history and prehistory.
