Rivignano Teor
Discovering Rivignano Teor
Hello everyone! Today I want to take you on a journey of discovery to a small Italian municipality located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region: Rivignano Teor. The town has a population of 6159 inhabitants and was established on January 1st, 2014 by the merger of the municipalities of Rivignano and Teor. In this text, I will talk about the history, symbols, society, and geography of Rivignano Teor.
History
The birth of the municipality was sanctioned by regional law no. 1 of February 7th, 2013, following the outcome of the referendum held on December 2nd, 2012, during which almost all the voters of Rivignano and Teor expressed themselves in favor of the merger. At the time of its establishment, the former mayors of Rivignano and Teor respectively assumed the position of commissioner and vice-prefectural commissioner until the mayoral elections in May 2014.
Symbols
The coat of arms and the flag of the municipality were granted by decree of the President of the Republic in May 2015. The flag is a split banner of blue and red.
Society
Population evolution
Despite being a scattered municipality and not having a real capital city, Rivignano Teor has seen a steady increase in population in recent years.
Languages and dialects
In Rivignano Teor, in addition to the Italian language, the population also uses the Friulian language. The municipality is included in the list of Italian municipalities of Friulian language for the purpose of applying regional laws on this matter. The variant of Friulian spoken in Rivignano Teor is the central-eastern one.
Anthropic geography
Factions
The municipality is composed of several fractions, including Ariis, one of the most important. Here you can find Villa Ottelio-Savorgnan, a very important residence in the history of the town, which is believed to have been the villa where the Savorgnan family of Giulietta, the protagonist of Shakespeare's play, lived. Inside the villa, there is a wreck of a Roman boat. Near the villa is also the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore Apostolo, dating back to 1903. But it's not over yet: Ariis also hosts a beautiful park overlooking the Stella River and an aquarium of freshwater fish species from Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
I have just shown you a small part of what Rivignano Teor has to offer. If you happen to be in the area, I recommend you to visit this municipality which, despite being small, has many interesting things to discover.
