Rivarolo Canavese: history, geography, and symbols of a Piedmontese city.

The history of the city

Rivarolo's history is ancient, dating back to Roman times! Over the centuries, Rivarolo has been involved in many battles between local lords and counts of Savoy. During the Middle Ages, it was often involved in fights between local lords, the marquises of Monferrato, the counts of Savoy, and the Savoia-Acaia. But at the end of the 15th century, thanks to the Sabauda intermediation, the city obtained its Statutes, concrete symbols of autonomy and prosperity.

And do you know one of Rivarolo's nicknames? ''Riparolium'', meaning small place on the riverbank. In fact, the city was founded precisely on the right bank of the Orco river. In 1863, the municipality was awarded the title of city.

But Rivarolo's history has not always been easy. In 2012, the city council was disbanded due to mafia affiliation. But don't worry, today the situation is under control!

The symbols of Rivarolo Canavese

The coat of arms of Rivarolo Canavese is an oval shield with a crown with five towers surmounted by a rooster at the top and the inscription "Vigilantia" at the base. This coat of arms represents the history and tradition of the city.
