Rivamonte Agordino

Welcome to Rivamonte Agordino!

Hello everyone! Today I will be talking about Rivamonte Agordino, an Italian municipality located in the province of Belluno, in the Veneto region. With its 622 inhabitants, it is also known as Riva in Ladin and is part of the Ladin linguistic minority.

Physical geography

The territory of Rivamonte Agordino is located in southwestern Agordino, on the orographic right of the Cordevole. Most of the inhabitants live on a high plateau surrounded by small mountains that separate them from Voltago Agordino. Nature is very present here, and the municipal territory is protected by the National Park of the Belluno Dolomites and the Valle Imperina Nature Reserve. In fact, you can admire the imposing Piz di Mezzodì on the Monti del Sole, a view that will leave you breathless!

Rivamonte Agordino: history, art and nature amidst the Dolomites!

History

The history of Rivamonte Agordino dates back to the thirteenth century when the village was mentioned for the first time. It remained a rural community under the syndicate of Sottochiusa and the captaincy of Agordo until the establishment of Napoleonic municipalities. The main economic activity in the area was the mining activity of Valle Imperina, which closed in 1962, causing a demographic decline in the area.

Monuments and places of interest

If you are a lover of art and sacred buildings, the Parish Church of San Floriano is a must-see. Perhaps founded in the fifteenth century, the church was rebuilt between 1866 and 1886 based on the design of Giuseppe Segusini. Inside, you can admire a painting by Tomaso Da Rin with the Trinity, San Floriano, and St. Anthony of Padua, as well as twelve niches with the statues of the apostles of Christ. Behind the main altar, you will also find an organ with 1078 pipes.

For lovers of historical sites, the mining site of Valle Imperina, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a place not to be missed. Its mining activity, closed in the 1960s, is now part of an industrial archeology project to preserve its historical memory.

Conclusions

Whether it's for a walk in nature or to discover local history, Rivamonte Agordino is a fascinating and enchanting place. I recommend visiting the area to enjoy the beautiful scenery and discover its local culture and economy. There are many things to see and do, so don't hesitate to visit this beautiful municipality!
