Welcome to Riva di Chieri!

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about a beautiful municipality located in the metropolitan city of Turin, in Piedmont: Riva di Chieri, or as it is said in Piedmontese, Riva 'd Cher. The town has 4467 inhabitants and is known for the presence of Bioteck. But let's discover the history of this small municipality.

History

Riva di Chieri has a long history dating back to the 12th century. In 1152, the Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa confirmed Count Guido III of Biandrate's dominion over certain places, including Riva, thanks to the presence of a castle. The Biandrate lordship extended only over half of the municipality, while the other half belonged to Barbarossa. Later, Riva became part of the free municipality of Chieri, which was expanding over the entire surrounding territory.

In the 14th century, the Ghibelline of Asti took refuge in Riva, creating a real fortress, but were assaulted by the Guelf armies commanded by Roberto D'Angiò's seneschal Ugone di Balzo in 1318. After a long and exhausting siege, Ugone's troops managed to conquer the place. At the end of the 14th century, Riva joined the Duchy of Savoy. In 1619, Carlo Emanuele I donated the fief of Riva to the Marchesa of Roussilon, his lover, and then passed to the Grosso di Bruzolo family.

During the war with the Kingdom of France in 1630, Riva's castle hosted the royal family and representatives of the states that committed themselves to the peace preliminaries, later signed in Cherasco.
