Carruba

Hi everyone, I'll talk to you about Carruba!

If you're looking for a peaceful destination that's not too crowded with tourists, Carruba might be the right choice for you. Located in the Metropolitan City of Catania, this area is managed by the municipalities of Giarre and Riposto. In this article, I'll tell you about the origins of the name, local traditions, the economy and infrastructure, and transportation in the area.

Origins of the name

The name of the locality may derive from a grove of carob trees, which was located in the northern edge of the Bosco d'Aci, or from the Arabic "qarûbah," which indicated a small coin used during Muslim domination in Sicily. What an interesting curiosity!

The feast of the Madonna delle Grazie has a little extra touch: on the Saturday before the start of the festival, a folk dance and music show is organized, animated by the presence of the Cereo. In addition, every ten years, a big celebration is held, during which the Madonna delle Grazie travels throughout the entire area between Saturday and Sunday following July 2nd.
