The History of Corpolò

The history of Corpolò is very ancient: it is presumed that there was a settlement in the hamlet's territory until the Roman era. On the natural terrace known as Belvedere, there was Castrum Corpaloe, a cluster of farmhouses that had a central square and houses around it. This complex of assets was known as "Corpus-all" and will become, over the centuries, "Corpalai" until the present "Corpolò". Throughout history, Corpolò passed under the dominion of various authorities, including the Rimini Church and the Malatesta, who made it be conquered and completely destroyed.

The Origin of the Name

There are different theories about the name of Corpolò, but all seem to confirm that it was someone's property. A first hypothesis derives the name from the Latin "Corpus-all", that is "a place where someone's assets were". Another hypothesis, on the other hand, derives the name from the steward's fund (of the imperial palace), "Curapalati". From here we arrive at the present "Corpolò", passing through "Curpalati" and "Curpalai".

Monuments and Places of Interest

In the upper part of the village is the parish church of Santa Maria, built in the 16th century and which houses works of art of great value. The church was erected on the remains of an ancient chapel and its facades date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Also not to be missed is the panoramic view from the Belvedere terrace, which offers a unique glimpse of the surrounding nature.

Conclusions

Corpolò is a charming hamlet that will not disappoint your expectations. With the breathtaking view of the Marecchia Valley, the history that runs through the centuries, and the monuments and places of interest that await you, you will be conquered by the unique atmosphere of the small Romagna hamlet. We look forward to welcoming you to Corpolò for an unforgettable visit!
