Rimasco
Rimasco: a holiday gem in Piedmont
Hello everyone! Today I'll talk to you about Rimasco, a hamlet in the municipality of Alto Sermenza in the province of Vercelli, in Piedmont. This small village of only 125 inhabitants is a beloved holiday destination, nestled in one of the most beautiful side valleys of the Valsesia.
Physical geography
Rimasco is located in a suggestive position, right where the Sermenza and Egua streams meet. Here, a dam was built in 1925, creating a small artificial lake, Lake Rimasco. The lake's waters are used to power a hydroelectric power plant in Fervento, creating a very suggestive landscape impact.
History
The municipality of Rimasco has an ancient and interesting history. In the first half of the nineteenth century, it joined Ferrate, incorporating the hamlets of Balmella, Molino Caferagotti, Oro, and Campo Ragoccio. In 1835, the municipality of Rimasco obtained control over these hamlets with the Royal Patents of the Kingdom of Sardinia.
Symbols
The coat of arms and the banner of Rimasco are very representative of the local traditions. Granted by the President of the Republic's decree on June 30, 1958, the coat of arms features a stonemason at work on a block of marble, while the banner is made up of a blue drape.
Society
Demographic evolution
The population of Rimasco has remained almost stable over time, reaching only 125 inhabitants. However, this has never hindered the beauty and liveliness of the place, which remains highly beloved by the locals and tourists.
Culture
Events
One of the most anticipated events of the year is the Miaccia Fair, a typical local dish celebrated every August 16th. This event always attracts many visitors who can taste high-quality local dishes.
Infrastructure and transport
Rimasco is connected to Varallo by a bus line managed by the company Autoservizi Tiziano Andreoli, and some runs are only by reservation. In addition, since 2014, there is an active fun bob facility that allows you to experience a unique and adventurous moment.
Administration
Since 2018, Rimasco has merged with Rima San Giuseppe to form the new municipality of Alto Sermenza.
