The history of Rigolato
The Degano valley was inhabited by the Celts, an ancient people, so much so that there is documented evidence of Rigolato's existence as early as the 13th century. This municipality, like much of Carnia, was part of the Patriarchate of Aquileia and, subsequently, of the Republic of Venice. With the fall of the Serenissima, Rigolato became the capital of the Canton of Rigolato and then of the District of Rigolato. To this day, the small town has been annexed to the Kingdom of Italy.
The monuments of Rigolato
Rigolato boasts numerous buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, including the Church of Saints Philip and James, which houses works of great artistic value. Not far from there, you will find Vuezzis, where you can admire the fourteenth-century church of San Nicola di Bari. This church houses an extraordinary cycle of frescoes depicting the life and works of San Nicolò, inspired by the workshop of Vitale da Bologna, originally from Udine.
