History

In the 18th century, the village of Casette was a royal villa included in the territories of the Farnese States. It was located on the border between the Kingdom of Naples and the Papal States. In 1821, the Battle of Rieti-Antrodoco was fought here. Later, in 1852, a bilateral treaty established the transfer of the territories of the left bank of the Salto River to the Papal States, including Casette, which was incorporated into the municipality of Rieti.

Monuments and places of interest

One of the most important and interesting places in the village of Casette is the church of Ognissanti, built in 1621 and located at the top of the hill, which can be reached on foot on the right side of the square. Another attraction is the monument to the fallen of the First World War, placed in 1921 and then modified after the Second World War with the addition of the names of the two missing soldiers from 1940-1945. Finally, on the left bank of the river, there is a point of great naturalistic interest: the place where the Salto River flows into the Velino River.

Infrastructure and transport

The village of Casette is crossed by the 578 Salto Cicolana State Road, which connects it to other nearby locations. Therefore, there is no shortage of car traffic, which simplifies travel in the area.

Sport

For sports enthusiasts, Casette offers a respectable football history. Starting from the 1950s, Casette Calcio was active, which reached its peak in the Promotion competition between 1991 and 1996, with the best placement ever achieved of the sixth position. The team mainly played at the "Macelletto", a historic Reatino field, located just 8 km away from the village of Casette. Only later, the team was able to use its own sports field, inaugurated in the 1980s. With the end of Casette Calcio, after the participation of A.S.D. Nuova Casette in the regional championship of 2006-2007, the fraction experienced a period of stagnation in the sports field.
