Welcome to the Province of Rimini

Hello everyone! Are you ready to discover the Province of Rimini? It is a territory located in Emilia-Romagna, in the northern part of Italy, which has approximately 339,000 inhabitants and has the beautiful city of Rimini as its capital. It is the southernmost province of northern Italy and borders the Marche (Pesaro and Urbino Province) and the Republic of San Marino to the south, the Adriatic Sea to the east, Forlì-Cesena Province to the north, and Tuscany (Arezzo Province) to the west.

Brief History

The Province of Rimini was established in 1992, separating from the territory of the then-Province of Forlì, which became the new Province of Forlì-Cesena. The first provincial council took office in 1995, and in 2009 the province expanded by incorporating seven municipalities of Valmarecchia: Casteldelci, Maiolo, Novafeltria, Pennabilli, San Leo, Sant'Agata Feltria, and Talamello, previously included in the territory of the Pesaro and Urbino Province. After a local referendum, the Italian Parliament approved the region's transition from Marche to Emilia-Romagna.

The Territory

The provincial territory of Rimini is characterized by five morphologically and landscape homogeneous areas. The north-eastern part of the province is predominantly agricultural, with some residential settlements, production areas, commercial centers, and road and rail infrastructure. Along the Adriatic Sea extends the famous Romagna Riviera, a long and narrow flat coastal strip that includes the seaside resorts of Rimini, Riccione, Cattolica, Bellaria-Igea Marina, and Misano Adriatico. The city of Rimini is the main center of this coastal conurbation and the province in general. The province also surrounds a Tuscan enclave of Ca' Raffaello.

Tourism

The coastal area of the Province of Rimini has long been a very popular tourist destination in Italy, thanks to its beautiful beaches and the numerous nightclubs that have also given rise to the so-called Romagna nightlife. There are also many cultural attractions to discover, such as the remains of the ancient Roman city of Ariminum in Rimini, the medieval village of San Leo, and the Montebello Castle, legendary for the story of the White Lady's ghost.
