Passirana: Introduction

Physical Geography
Passirana is crossed, in the north and east, by the Lura stream, a heavily polluted watercourse which, for hygiene reasons, has been almost completely covered.
History
The name "Passirana" derives from a gentilic "Passerius", an ancient resident of the area. In 1558, in the registers of the estimation of the Duchy of Milan, Passirana takes on the role of a municipality and is included in the parish of Nerviano, with 399 inhabitants. The consul, who was responsible for local policing, administered the municipality, and a chancellor, residing in Milan, was responsible for the annual apportionments and the custody of public writings.
In 1771, Passirana counted 341 inhabitants. With the law of 1798, the municipality was included in the district of Saronno and, with the subsequent law, was transported to the Olona department, district of Rho. In 1801, the municipality was included in the IV district of the Olona department, with Gallarate as its capital. With the activation of the territorial compartment of the Kingdom of Italy, the municipality of Passirana remained in the IV district of Gallarate, inserted into the II canton of Saronno.
What to see in Passirana
Passirana is a peaceful hamlet, but offers many interesting places. For example, there is the Church of San Vittore, the main place of worship in the hamlet, built between 1863 and 1866 in neo-gothic style. The Passirana Wine Museum is also interesting, an interactive path that tells the story of local winemaking and wine production.
