Vicosoprano is located at an altitude of 1,086 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest permanent settlements in Liguria. But it's not just its altitude that makes it special, there are many interesting things to discover about this small mountain village.

Physical geography of Vicosoprano

Vicosoprano is located on the left watershed at the foot of Mount Oramara and is accessed via Provincial Road 72 through the towns of Alpepiana and Vicomezzano. From the Val Trebbia, access is allowed through the Pescino pass after passing through the towns and locations of Ottone, Orezzoli, Bussego and Lenguie. The hamlet is in a unique position to admire the natural beauty that surrounds it.

History of Vicosoprano

After the Napoleonic period, Vicosoprano became part of the Kingdom of Sardinia in the province of Bobbio, then in the district of Bobbio assigned to the new province of Pavia, then from 1923 to 1926 in the Chiavari district of the then province of Genoa, in the Kingdom of Italy. Its history dates back a long time ago and it is interesting to discover how this hamlet has passed through time.

Monuments and places of interest in Vicosoprano

In addition to enjoying the panorama, there are also many monuments and places of interest to visit in Vicosoprano. The parish church of San Giuseppe Operaio dates back to 1907 and stands on the foundations of an older church dating back to the second half of the 1700s. The chapel of the Madonna della Guardia stands a few hundred meters from the town center. Caruggi, paved with "ciappe", form a real "spider web" of streets in the fabric of the residential layout. Some lintels on the entrance doors bear dates, religious symbols and inscriptions. There are also characteristic stone-carved fountains located on public streets, for public use, and the ACLI salon circle where various activities are held during the summer season.

But what makes Vicosoprano fascinating are also its external places. For the Costa, probably the most panoramic place in the entire Val d'Aveto, it is a "balcony" on the group of mount Maggiorasca, on Mount Penna (Ligurian Apennines) and Mount Aiona, on Mount Roncalla and on most of the peaks of the right valley slope, as well as on the towns of Ascona, Torrio, Pareto and on the course of the Aveto stream which is 500 meters below. Pian Severone, a large plateau at the foot of Mount Oramara, located at an altitude between 1160 and 1210 meters above sea level, is rich in floral and faunistic singularities, and in winter it is rich in "seasonal lakes". Pescino, the Pescino pass (1195 m), a very characteristic green basin, is rich in spring blooms and wild fruits and is home to the sports field (closed). Bocca della Selva, a pass located at 1290 meters dividing the ridges of Mount Oramara and Carmo, is a windy and panoramic area. Finally, Mount Oramara, 1522 meters above sea level, is the highest elevation of the left ridge of the Aveto valley and is an excellent panoramic point.
