Cabanne: history and nature of the enchanting hamlet of Rezzoaglio.

History

Cabanne has a very interesting history. In the past, it was part of the imperial fiefdom of Santo Stefano d'Aveto, as well as the capital of Rezzoaglio. It was thanks to the French domination of Napoleon Bonaparte, from 1797, that the village acquired its own administrative autonomy. However, in 1804, the municipality of Cabanne was suppressed and merged with Priosa, into the municipality of Rezzoaglio, and then transferred to the municipality of Santo Stefano d'Aveto the following year.

Later, after the suppression of the same municipality of Rezzoaglio in 1815, the hamlet of Cabanne was part of the newly established Rezzoaglio municipality from 1918.

From 1815 to 1859, Cabanne was a border area with the province of Bobbio in the Kingdom of Sardinia, while from 1859 to 1923, it was a border area with the Bobbio district of the province of Pavia.

The church of Bernardo di Chiaravalle, the headquarters of the homonymous parish, is one of the most important historical assets of the town. Inside it is possible to admire two pictorial works of Giovanni Lanfranco, "The Deposition from the Cross" and the "Resurrection". In addition, the wooden choir houses the historic organ built in 1905 by the Giuseppe Cavalli company of Piacenza, restored in 1999 by the organ builder Angelo Rosaguta of Recco. The testing of the organ and the inauguration concert were performed by maestro Ljuba Moiz on the occasion of the feast of the patron saint, Saint Bernard of Clairvaux.
