The province of Imperia, or "provinsa de Impêia" in the Ligurian language, is located in the Liguria region and is home to approximately 208,303 people. It faces the Ligurian Sea to the south and borders Piedmont to the north, the province of Savona to the east, and France to the west. Physical geography
The province of Imperia is divided into three areas: Imperiese, Sanremese, and Ventimigliese. It is located in the western and southernmost part of Liguria and is home to some of the most beautiful art cities in the region.
History
In the past, this area belonged to the Province of Nice until, in 1860, much of the territory was ceded to France. The part that remained in the Kingdom of Sardinia, with the districts of Porto Maurizio and San Remo, became the province of Porto Maurizio. In 1923, after the merger of the capital Porto Maurizio into the city of Imperia, the province assumed its current name.

The official coat of arms of the province of Imperia was approved in 1927. The province was awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valor in 1979 for its sacrifices during World War II.
