Revò

Revò: A Charming Village

Revò is a small mountain village located in Val di Non, in Trentino-Alto Adige. With its 1,267 inhabitants, this village was an independent commune until December 31, 2019. Today, it has become a part of the municipality of Novella, along with other surrounding municipalities such as Brez, Cagnò, Cloz, and Romallo.

Physical Geography

Revò has a very suggestive location, as it overlooks Lake Santa Giustina, and is therefore called the "balcony of Anaunia". The village is recognizable from afar thanks to its two bell towers: that of the church of Santo Stefano, the tallest and with an original Romanesque structure; and that of the church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, dating back to the eighteenth century. In the village, there are also some residential buildings dating back to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Revò: Beauty, History, and Mountain Tradition

History

Revò has a very ancient history that dates back to the Roman period. The commune's coat of arms depicted "a cluster of pampinous and leaved Groppello, natural", a clear allusion to the importance of grape cultivation in the area.

Monuments and Places of Interest

Revò boasts several monuments and places of interest that are worth visiting. Among the most important civil buildings is Casa Campia, an imposing and elegant example of late Renaissance architecture from beyond the Alps, which is now owned by the municipality. Among the religious buildings, we find the churches of Santo Stefano and Madonna del Carmine, two examples of sacred architecture that testify to the village's faith.

Society

The population of Revò has undergone several changes over the centuries. In the 2001 census, 297 inhabitants declared themselves "Ladins", meaning they speak a variant of the Ladin language, typical of the area.

Culture

Revò has a strong musical tradition rooted in the period of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Terza Sponda Band, founded in 1923, is the main point of reference for music lovers in the village. There is also a folk choir, the Maddalene Choir, which has a history of over sixty years.

Anthropogenic Geography

Until 2019, Revò was an independent commune, although the municipalities of Cagnò and Romallo were also included in its administration. In 1950, after the fall of fascism, these two municipalities were re-established as separate communes.

Economy

Revò's economy is mainly based on apple cultivation, particularly of the Golden Delicious variety, but there are also some vineyards on the lake. It is interesting to note that in the past, the Groppello grape was cultivated in Revò, which produced a particularly fine wine. However, in recent years, there has been a resurgence of the cultivation of this indigenous vine, thanks to its historical and cultural importance.

Revò is a charming village that deserves to be visited to discover its natural and cultural beauties. It is an unmissable stop for those looking for art, history, and tradition in a mountain setting of rare beauty.
