Geography
Quattromiglia is located on the State Road 19 of Calabria, from which you can admire the hills to the west and the Crati River to the east. It is a modern district that is part of the conurbation with the capital municipality of Cosenza.
Origin of the name
The name Quattromiglia comes from the Latin "Quattuor" (four) and "Milia" (miles), as in Roman times it was a hamlet about four miles away from Cosenza.
History
The first signs of Quattromiglia's existence date back to the sixteenth century, when it was re-founded by the Bourbons. After the advent of the Kingdom of Italy, it became the first fraction of Rende. In recent years, Quattromiglia has become an important residential district thanks to its proximity to the University of Calabria.
Important Buildings
One of the most important buildings in Quattromiglia is the Church of Madonna di Montserrat. Built in the 1950s, the church was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1980 and features a modern-style slender bell tower. Additionally, the church reopened its doors to the faithful in September 2021 after the renovation of the interior.
Another important church in Quattromiglia is that of Carlo Borromeo, inaugurated in 2004. The church has a circular shape, and its dome is visible even from a great distance.
