Villa Margi

Let's explore Villa Margi!

Hello everyone! Today I will take you on a journey to discover Villa Margi, a hamlet in the municipality of Reitano, in Sicily.

Monuments and places of interest

If you are passionate about religious architecture, you cannot miss a visit to the Church of Porto Salvo. Every year, the tradition of Easter Tuesday is celebrated here. It is a very important event for the local community, who gather in prayer and celebrate their faith.

But there are also other surprises to discover in Villa Margi! For example, on the waterfront you will find the work of art designed by Tano Festa "Monumento per un poeta morto" (1989), better known as "Finestra sul mare". This sculpture, 18 meters high, dedicated to the memory of his poet brother Francesco, is part of the Fiumara d'arte open-air museum, together with eleven other contemporary art works in the area. This museum is a real hidden gem, definitely worth a visit.

Archaeological sites

But Villa Margi is not just art and culture. Here you can immerse yourself in history through archaeological sites that have been found in the area. Mosaics and wall remains have been found, telling us about the lives of the people who inhabited this area in the past.

Curiosities

It should be noted that Villa Margi was not always as peaceful as it is today. In fact, the work of art "Finestra sul mare" has been involved in legal proceedings, which initially ordered its demolition for building violations. Fortunately, this order was overturned in 1994 by the Supreme Court of Cassation. Subsequently, the work was closed for two years, from April 22, 2005 to May 25, 2007, due to poor maintenance offered by local administrators. But today "Finestra sul mare" has been restored and still represents a testimony of the art and culture in this area.

Conclusions

So, this was our short visit to Villa Margi, a hamlet full of surprises and history. I hope I have piqued your curiosity and inspired you to visit this wonderful place. So what are you waiting for? Set out to discover Villa Margi!
