Rea
The story of Rea
Hello everyone! Today I will talk about Rea, a small town in the province of Pavia, Lombardy. This little town has an interesting history dating back to the 13th century. Its proximity to the Po River, which is often subject to devastating floods, has had a strong impact on the lives of the inhabitants of Rea. In fact, the town's layout has changed considerably over the centuries. However, unlike many other towns along the river, Rea was not completely destroyed and never found itself on the other side of the Po, remaining always on the Oltre Po.
Society and administration
Today, Rea has only 390 inhabitants and the economy of the town is based on agricultural production, artisanal businesses, and the paper industry. The municipality was suppressed in 1929 and merged with Verrua Po, but was subsequently re-established in 1954. Rea is part of the diocese of Tortona rather than that of Piacenza, as appears from the Rationes Decimarum.
Demographic evolution
From a demographic point of view, Rea has experienced ups and downs over the centuries, but in recent years there has been a decline in population. In 1951, the municipality had 682 inhabitants, but today it has less than half. There seem to be many reasons for this decline, including the lack of work and migration to larger cities.

If you are curious to learn more about Rea, I recommend checking out the municipality's website, where you will find useful information about the history, culture, and tourism of the area. It's definitely worth visiting this small town in the beautiful region of Oltrepò pavese.
