Marina Romea
Marina Romea, a recently developed tourist destination
Marina Romea is a district of Ravenna located on the Adriatic coast, to the north of the city. It is a recently developed tourist destination, founded in 1950. The entire area was covered by a pine forest between the sea, the Baiona valley, and the Lamone marshes. In 1952, work began on the construction of a coastal road to the north of the Candiano canal, to connect Porto Corsini to Casal Borsetti. The road, completed in 1956, is called Viale Italia and is still the main artery of Marina Romea. The name of the village was chosen by competition organized by the Chamber of Commerce through the proposal of Sandro Gueltrini. "Marina Romea" refers to the Strada Romea, the long road that connects Ravenna to Venice.
Characteristics and sports activities
Marina Romea is a residential tourist destination. The tourism is mostly composed of families from Ravenna with numerous second homes. There are several sports activities such as canoeing in the lagoon, horse riding, and beach volleyball. The pine forest and lagoon are interesting destinations for ecotourism. In the lagoon, there is also a watchtower for birdwatching.
