Longana
Longana: a small hamlet in Ravenna
Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Longana, a small hamlet in the municipality of Ravenna, located in the province of the same name. Longana is part of the district of Roncalceci and has a population of 108 people. However, if we consider the territory of the hamlet, the population rises to 450 inhabitants.
The church of Sant'Apollinare
The settlement is distributed along the State Road 67 Tosco-Romagnola and houses a beautiful church: the parish of Sant'Apollinare. This church is an ancient parish church that has been documented since 1079 and is built on top of an even older chapel, identified as the site of the saint's first burial. The church has a single nave, rectangular shape, but over the centuries it has undergone various renovations, including the demolition of the apse and the relocation of the entrance door. Indeed, although the original entrance to the church was on the opposite side, where the old bricked-up portal is still visible, today the entrance faces the SS 67 road.
The Forlì-Ravenna tramway
Between 1883 and 1929, Longana was served by a stop on the Forlì-Ravenna tramway which ran along the left bank of the Bidente-Ronco river. This means of transport represented an important economic development tool for the area.
