Lido Adriano

Lido Adriano: a place with literary origins

Lido Adriano is a suburb of the city of Ravenna located nine kilometers from the city and facing directly on the Adriatic Sea. The name of the town derives from the term "adriano" used by Dante Alighieri in his work "Divine Comedy" with the meaning of "Adriatic". This literary origin gives the town a romantic aura.

The history of the town

Lido Adriano was the last of the "Lidi Sud" (Southern Beaches) to be built. In the past, behind Lido Adriano there were fields cultivated with cereals and large rice paddies. After World War II, the entrepreneur Augusto Chiericati saw in the area an ideal place to create a tourist resort. In 1961, he reached an agreement with the Collective Federation for the purchase of 332 hectares south of Punta Marina.

In 1962, the architect Ludovico Quaroni presented the General Regulatory Plan in the municipality which provided for the intensive use of the coastal strip for tourist purposes. However, he had to wait until 1964 for the approval of the plan. This year is considered the official beginning of the birth of Lido Adriano.

The construction of buildings and infrastructure was entrusted to Cmc, including the construction of the "Residence Adriatico" skyscraper. Chiericati's daughter, Anna, closely followed the progress of the work.

Lido Adriano: Romantic story of a permanent residence.

Evolution of the town

In the 1980s, the resident population increased significantly - unexpectedly - since most of the residents were Italian and foreign immigrants. Lido Adriano, initially intended to become a tourist destination, instead became a place of permanent residence. The needs of the new residents led to the construction of new public works (kindergarten, sports center, church) and the creation of social services.

In the 1990s, the post office and the first elementary school were opened, followed by the pediatric clinic. In 1998, the Carabinieri barracks were inaugurated and the following year the multipurpose center for aggregation and training. Lido Adriano has exceeded 6,000 inhabitants with a tendency to increase, with sixty nationalities recorded.

Conclusions

Lido Adriano is a suburb of Ravenna with a rich history. The sound of the Adriatic Sea combined with Dante's history gives the town a romantic aura. The decision of Augusto Chiericati, an entrepreneur from Vicenza, to create a tourist resort in the area, led to the birth of a community of immigrants. The construction of buildings and infrastructure, and public services has satisfied the needs of residents, transforming the place into a permanent residence. Lido Adriano remains a point of reference for those looking for beauty and tranquility in an Italian coastal area.
