Ducenta
A brief introduction to the town of Ducenta
Hello everyone! Today, I will be talking about Ducenta, a beautiful hamlet in the town of Ravenna in the Province of Ravenna. This town is located in the southern area of the Municipality of Ravenna known as Ville Unite, where the purest dialect of the Romagnol language is preserved.
The history of Ducenta
The name Ducenta comes from the medieval Latin word "ducentola" which means two hundred, although some scholars believe it may be related to the Roman centuriation system. However, there is no evidence to support this as the area was likely marshy during Roman times.
The earliest reference to the locality dates back to 1218, when it was raided by the people of Faenza. In 1371, the parish consisted of 12 households. The church of Ducenta, dedicated to the Conversion of Saint Paul, was built in the XV century and consecrated in 1450 by Pietro Barbo, Bishop of Cervia and later Pope Paul II.
Monuments and places of interest in Ducenta
The exterior of the church in Ducenta has a Baroque style and is located on the three main streets: via Budria, via Senna, and via Castello. Inside the church, you can admire a wooden statue of the Blessing Christ on the right wall and a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel on the left wall. The statue of the Madonna is still considered miraculous and object of great devotion.
Furthermore, the church is equipped with a pipe organ built in 1838 by Luigi Cavalletti, one of the last descendants of an important Italian family of organ builders from Parma who also built other organs in Romagna, such as the one present in the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Monticino in Brisighella.
Conclusions
And that concludes my description of Ducenta! I hope I've given you a better understanding of this magnificent town that has so much to offer. If you have the opportunity to visit, do not miss the chance to admire its beautiful church and enjoy the atmosphere of peace and serenity that pervades its streets.
