Rancio Valcuvia

Welcome to Rancio Valcuvia!

Hello everyone! Today I will talk about Rancio Valcuvia, a small municipality located in the province of Varese in the Lombardy region. Rancio (or "Rànsc" in Varesotto dialect) is a village characterized by a rich history and natural beauty that deserves to be admired.

History

Rancio Valcuvia has a history that dates back to the mid-18th century, when it had only 370 inhabitants. Over the years, the village has grown and developed, passing through many important moments of the time, such as the annexation to Cuvio in 1809 and the union with other municipalities in 1812. Today, Rancio Valcuvia has almost 900 inhabitants and is made up of two residential areas: the historic center of Rancio and the hamlet of Cantevria.

Symbols

Our municipality has a coat of arms and a banner, granted by the President of the Republic's decree in 1959. The coat of arms represents a golden rampant lion placed on a blue background and topped with a towered crown. The banner, on the other hand, is similar to the flag of our Italy, with the colors green, white, and red and the addition of the municipal coat of arms in the center.

Society

Demographic evolution

The population of Rancio Valcuvia has always been growing steadily. If in 1751 there were only 370 inhabitants, in 1853 the number had risen to 656, and then almost reached 900 as we are today. Despite this, our village still maintains a welcoming and family-like dimension.

Economy

Rancio Valcuvia has made its fortune thanks to the textile transformation industry, particularly thanks to the "Torcitura di Rancio," an important company that has operated for many years in the area. Currently, the warehouse of the former Torcitura has been acquired by the Cumdi company and will be used for the production of drilling equipment and tool components. Although the textile industry has seen a decline in recent years, Rancio Valcuvia is developing in other economic and tourism sectors.

Monuments and places of interest

Rancio Valcuvia is a village particularly rich in art and popular culture. On the facades of the houses of the two historic nuclei, in fact, there are many votive frescoes that testify to the Catholic faith and devotion to the saints. In addition, at the edges of the village, you can admire an ancient Romanesque-style bridge that crosses the Rancina stream. We invite you to walk through the streets of the historic center and discover all the works of art it holds.

Infrastructures and transport

Rancio Valcuvia is located along the 394 state road of the Eastern Verbano and is crossed by the cycle-pedestrian path that connects Luino to Cittiglio. In 2021, the municipality was chosen as the site of one of the main vaccination centers for the administration of COVID-19 vaccines, demonstrating its importance as a reference point for the health and well-being of the local community.
