Hello everyone! Today I'll talk about one of the most charming cities in Sicily, Ragusa! Are you ready to explore this wonder of Italy with me?

Let's explore Ragusa together: Baroque art, nature, and history!

Physical Geography

Territory

Ragusa is located in the southern part of the Iblei Mountains, and is the southernmost provincial capital of Italy. It is the largest of the 100 Sicilian municipalities in terms of size and the eleventh in terms of altitude. The city is about 20 km from the sea and its highest point is Mount Arcibessi, which reaches 906 meters.

Ragusa Ibla, one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, sits on a hill, while Ragusa superiore extends westward to the plateau. The city is surrounded by hills and rivers, such as the Irminio in the center of the city, and the territory of Ragusa is characterized by a predominantly Mediterranean vegetation of oak and laurel.

History

The city has undergone numerous changes over the years, but one of the most important occurred in 1693, when an earthquake caused almost total destruction of the entire city, claiming more than five thousand lives. The reconstruction, which took place in the eighteenth century, divided the city into two large neighborhoods: Ragusa superiore and Ragusa Ibla. After the earthquake, numerous architectural masterpieces were built, which together with those of other municipalities in Val di Noto, were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002.

Bridges of Ragusa

Ragusa is famous for the presence of three picturesque and historically valuable bridges located in the district of Ragusa Ibla. These bridges, together with numerous Baroque architectures, bear witness to the skill and artistic beauty of this city.

Baroque Art

Ragusa is one of the most important places for the presence of Baroque art, with its churches and eighteenth-century palaces. The beauty of the architectures means that every year thousands of tourists go to Ragusa to admire the works of art left by history.

Flora and Fauna

The Iblean territory of the city boasts a very varied flora and fauna. There are over 1500 species of plants, mainly oak and laurel, which give the city incredible beauty. The fauna is also very rich, with numerous species of animals typical of the area.

Conclusions

Ragusa is an incredibly fascinating city, full of history, culture, and natural beauty. This city is a jewel of Southern Italy, and I can't wait to meet all of you to explore its wonders together!
